Montreal Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make amazing partners in healing! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets tackle issues with a variety of health conditions, many that Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic sees in our Montreal chiropractic patients who may want to know more!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine admires frankincense and myrrh for their extensively positive health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are parts of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with recent research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was lessened with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh combo is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic welcomes combinations of treatments to help our Montreal chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a serious complication of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by controlling pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained as being able to stimulate blood and dissipate blood stasis. The combination was tested and found to lessen neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to give you the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
