GROWING SUPPORT FOR CHRONIC LBP RELIEF WITH COX® TECHNIC

Chiropractic researchers and everyday clinical practitioners like your Montreal chiropractor at Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic witness the pain relief and function improvement. Some publish their outcomes for everyone to see! A newly published case report of a 67 year old male veteran coping with chronic low back pain and pain extending down his right leg occasionally recorded relief with Cox® Technic treatment. The patient described experiencing this pain for decades. In 4 weeks and 4 visits of flexion distraction treatment together with moist heat and soft-tissue mobilization, he detailed improvement in his condition, less pain medication usage, and better mobility. (1) That is a welcome result for this back pain sufferer!

WHAT’S UP WITH CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN? Spinal Manipulation’s Role

Chronic low back pain like that explained by the veteran in this case report is very common and can be quite disabling. Spinal manipulation is recommended for the management of chronic low back in several guidelines backed by such groups as the American Pain Society and the American College of Pain Physicians. (2,3) With chronic low back pain, central sensitization – the effect of repeated nerve stimulation has on the central nervous system - is purported to contribute to chronicity of pain.  Spinal manipulation’s benefit may well come from its influence on this sensitization. (4) That is a benefit chronic back pain sufferers can accept.

SPINAL MANIPULATION BETTER FOR CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN…REGARDLESS OF AGE

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (47 RCTs and 9211 participants) of spinal manipulation care for chronic low back pain described that spinal manipulation produced similar effects to other suggested therapies of chronic low back pain (like exercise and drug therapy), was superior to non-recommended intervention for short-term improvement, and had limited, mild-to-moderate, fleeting adverse effects. (5) Another such meta-analysis determined that spinal manipulation appeared to be a good option for relief of pain and improvement of function for chronic low back pain sufferers. (6) In a meta-analysis of specifically older (ages 65-91 y/o) chronic low back pain sufferers, the same deductions were reported: spinal manipulation should be considered a beneficial treatment for the older patient with chronic low back pain for pain relief and function improvement. (7) Most spinal manipulation is rendered by chiropractors according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. (8) And chiropractors like yours at Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic studied extra in the delivery of the gentle, non-thrust form of spinal manipulation known as Cox® Technic which well know for its treatment of disc herniation and spinal stenosis pain in addition to more common spinal pain conditions.
