Healthy News September 2022
An upbeat mindset, sound self-care, and pain-lessening treatment is a beneficial mix for spine pain relief. Chiropractic mixes them all! A study that followed 740 chronic low back pain patients for a year recorded that those who maintained their pain relief and stated an improved quality of life were also highly self-assured that they could still do activities regardless of their pain. Those who had widespread pain and imagined their pain as the worst ever from which they’d not get over lessened their recovery outcome. Knowing these factors, researchers and your Montreal chiropractor know that realistic expectations must be discussed and appreciated for optimal, satisfactory clinical outcomes. (1) (For example, 50% relief is good!) Complicating factors like poor sleep, fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression may affect healing for back pain and neck pain sufferers and must be addressed. We listen carefully to and have discussions with our chiropractic patients to handle issues as we advance toward pain relief and a better quality of life. We follow and disclose the 50% Rule of the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management that sets reasonable expectations for chiropractic pain relief: 50% relief within a month or so of care without any signs of progressive neurological deficits or other red flags is encouraging improvement. Additional good news arises from a scoping review of papers regarding spine-pain related factors that noted how many issues are adjustable: smoking, overweight/obesity, negative expectations of recovery, work environment, nutrition, etc. (2) That’s where we act together to maintain your positivity and confidence and form a robust Montreal chiropractic treatment plan for your pain relief!

Montreal CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH:
Look to Inflammation: An Ear Infection/Hearing Loss/Hip Fracture Risk Link
A new study evaluated those with chronic otitis media to those without. Researchers questioned if chronic otitis media inflammation affected the body beyond hearing. They found that those with chronic otitis media with a history of hearing loss are more prone to a increased risk of hip fracture. (3) Another study reported that chronic otitis media was found to be significantly associated with a higher risk of developing ‘sudden sensorineural hearing loss’ that comes on rapidly over a 3 day period. This is commonly associated with dizziness and ringing in the ears, treated with antibiotics, and accommodated for with hearing aids or devices for any enduring hearing loss. (4,5) We know inflammation is an enemy when managing Montreal back pain and neck pain, and it is apparently an enemy of ear pain and increased hip fracture risk, too! Pay attention to hearing issues and inflammation as they occur. We are here to help with chiropractic services! Dr. Hoang's Chiropractic Clinic and you form a great team.
